I've installed the Arena Chess 3.5.1 software and added the Stockfish 9 engine to it so I can improve my game. Problem is this is all new to me and I can't seem to find a basic tutorial to make sense of all the settings and modes. Can anyone suggest a good tutorial video/article that can help me?

Thanks!!

I'm not aware of any good tutorials for Arena, other than the Help file. BTW, don't expect a chess GUI to work miracles with improving your chess. They're good for checking blunders in your games, and they can perform basic database functions on your personal games database, but most of your improvement will come from old-fashioned study via books, DVDs, YouTube videos, and self-analysis (without engines) of your games.

But chess apps are useful for practicing openings, traps and such, which does help one improve his game. Unfortunately software developers are incapable of writing useful manuals or help pages. Almost all--if not all--that do attempt to write a manual focus on the 'what' and not the 'how', which is like reading about the features. Manuals seem to target those who don't need them. Of course, I'm grateful for the software programs...just wish the GUIs were more intuitive and in clear English.

I think Arena Chess is a marvelous piece of engineering; if only it weren't a labor to figure out how to use. Sigh!
