Do any of you guys know of any rising chess player in Australia? Because we could really use more GMs and of course take control of the chess world by getting the World Chess Championship. Our best has sadly retired, but does our country stand a chance in single or even at the chess olympiad?

Uh? She only has a rating of 1000 something. No offense but she ant no master. And im not talking online chess. You can ask anyone here and they will agree with me that OTB is way harder then online and being good OTB is whats important, not online. Even though you guys online are good but its overrated. And just yes? Are you able to tell me what supports your answer?

Isn't that really cute girl from Melbourne a GM? The one that was on that "SO you think you can Dance" Or is she just a really good chess player? Either way she competed in the Tourin Chess competition or whatever. Besides Aussies drink too much to care about chess haha. Actually I have not met anyone real big into chess in Perth right now... so play hard and you can be the GM that reps queensland.

OnionMan

No not at all. Theres that one girl that reached the 2600 or 2700 point mark and is really good. Have you ever been to Australia  stonedfuzzy? I would love to but im not sure if i'll ever become a GM anytime soon.

Well, I reckon aussies spend too much time on their cricket or the pub to worry about chess...  I've lived here for over four years & have only played OTB a couple of locals! I beat them & I'm not GM at all...  so how can they reach that level when they hardly play at all!!!

Go get 'em girl, oh & bring me that carton of beer instead, I live at 7/189...... Laughing

I come from china and ive lived in australia for 10 yrs and i certainly agree with the fact that aussies spend too much time on cricket.

IM David Smerdon won the recent Queenstown Classic, and I believe he has all 3 GM norms. At least you're doing better than your trans-Tasman oppositionCry.

B.t.w Please don't delete posts - it makes the thread hard to follow.

I wasn't pointing the finger at you Innocent. People can delete their own individual posts, however.
