Backwards moves are widely regarded as the most difficult to spot! It would be interesting to see a database of famous winning retreat moves. Any comments?
I really like "backwards" moves as well when they're good. Especially when the "backward" square is actually the better square for the piece and it doesn't intend to just temporarily stay there..
