chessarena is better to get titles
becoming candidate master's, FIDE master's etc

a candidate master title is given when you achieve a "established classical FIDE rating" of 2200
what is the "established classical FIDE rating", is it our elo on chess.com? if so what game mode ( i guess it would be classical so rapid) ?
do you automatically get the title if you hit 2200 elo? how does it all work
same for FM with being 2300 or more
Chess.com does not award titles, just recognizes those gained from playing over-the-board regular rated official games. So you would need to play tournaments in person to get ratings and if you're good enough, titles.

Also the fact that titles were given out before online chess became a thing.

Yeah, but doesn't change the fact that titles were given out before online chess.
