I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death
Beyond the walls of intelligence, life is defined
I think five moves ahead, when I'm in a chess state of mind

Is it just me or is anyone else living breathing chess!? Im even dreaming about moves in my sleep! That cant be healthy.
You get used to it after a while, then it becomes second nature
fight it people! don't let it get to you!
oddly, i would say that obsession is the #2 reason why people leave chess.com :) it just becomes "too much" if you don't pace yourself.
I often wake up thinking about chess, thinking im on chess.com
It's better than when I used to dream about Halo !

Yes, and your wife (or husband) will keep you grounded...
I can't stay off of CHESS.COM. I check on and off the site all day reading and playing. Now if I could only improve my game I would really be pleased.
Eric the site is getting better all the time. Being retired makes it even so as I have the time every day to spend with chess- THANKS

I was thinking about starting a support group for chess.com addicts. Addiction can be a life-long struggle. Admitting you have a problem is the first step towards recovery.
I don't have a problem with Chess it is a wonderful addiction. Now beer may be another story, it like chess, there is never enough!

good idea....we also need to address post-traumatic syndrome for those suffering from battle fatigue as a result of having signed onto too many tournaments
Chess wasn't made to be perfect. If you are analyzing lines 5 deep, a lot of the time, you will miss it when you play me - I choose weird lines on purpose. Have fun, and it will be much more inspiring.
Now I agree, I always want to come back and see if there is another move made. I love the communication with people, the thought, etc. I never wanted to pay for a chess site before I found this one.
Let's put it this way, in about 100 days, I've played around 275 games (240 online, 35 offline), completed roughly 2000 (1700 online, 300 in books) tactics problems, gone from an 1100's player to a 1500's player, and currently have a stack of 4 chess books on my desk at home in front of my computer. Oh, and I dream about chess probably half of my evenings.
Looking back at my figures mentioned, that breaks down to roughly 2.75 games + 20 tactics problems PER day, 7 days a week. Where do you draw the line between enthusiastic and addicted? You be the judge, as I have no idea, but I'm sure enjoying the ride to 2000+! ;)
This is waaayyy too addictive! Don't you love it!
I have no problem with visiting chess.com 10 times a day to look at moves and read articles. (Its my home page so it opens everytime I open my browser). Its better than porn sites and other stuff that rots your mind. (Not that I've ever visited those sites ... true!!)
I second what wiseachoo said - my rating has gone from ~1250 when I found chess.com to ~1650 and rising. I might have played a handful of games a year before chess.com. Now I play that many in a week. I am studying openings when I play my games to help me understand the pro's and cons of moves. And studying my games after they are finished (live games) to see where I went wrong.
I wish I could work for chess.com but I've already got a full time job and a family...
I've gotta go now and take my meds...
maybe this is just my personal biased opinion, but for the cost of 1 chess book you can get 2 months of Chess Mentor (www.chess.com/chessmentor ) which has much more material than a book. and for the cost of 1 book you can also get unlimited tactics trainer on Chess.com (www.chess.com/tactics).
the only chess books i buy are for openings!
I have it pretty bad. I am 15 years old, go to high school five days a week, have a good amount of homework/extracurricular activities, and I still managed to spend about six hours a day playing chess on this website. For about a month I found myself playing chess from about eight at night until two in the morning, and then doing my homework. Afterwards, I would go to sleep and have nightmares about pieces moving the wrong ways and positions that are impossible to reach. I would think about everything in terms of chess, and my grades dropped from A's to B's.
Luckily, I lightened up a bit.
