I don't think I've seen anyone playing chess at Starbucks... maybe I've just been to the wrong ones?

There's a good one in Berlin

Athens has a really comfy old style chess cafe (Panellinion) for knockabout games, as well as a cutting edge bar (BOOZE) where some strong chess players mingle with younger players, also a nice Saturday 11am group at a quiet restaurant by a park (To Trikyklo). Budapest of course has the baths...

ColumBuzz

Delhi has some...

Naturally. It makes perfect sense that instead of using their unbeatability to win millions in the world championship and other events that they would choose to remain homeless. It's all a matter of personal taste I suppose.

It is true though. When I played chess in Washington Square Park I met some homeless people who were very strong. Some of them just didn't have the money to play in a tournament or didn't want to gamble with the small amount of money they did have. And there are homeless people who like the lifestyle. They prefer the freedom of being out in the street and doing what they want and not having to put up with wives, landlords or bosses of TD's for that matter.

I'd like to check out BOOZE if I make it to Athens. Although too much Booze and it'll be a blunderfest.

Why did you pluralize "chesscafes" with an apostrophe s?

Cafes, not "cafe's".

In Lima, Peru you can play on Pasaje Champagnat, in Miraflores. In general, the game is worth 2 or 3 soles (1 US$=3.25 soles). very democratic spot.

It was strange to see how this thread was derailed by some harsh words between members of the forum. I just wanted to acknowledge that it made me feel upset to see that. I know face to face neither of the two gentlemen may speak in such harsh tones or try and prove eachother incorrect. I may be wrong but yes , it was just sad , that's all.

i went to a cafe in LA once

Servant_of_Divinity

Berlin has chess cafe "en passant" on Schönhauser Allee for example..

I sometimes think chess players can't or won't have listening to a random opinion and be like: "Uh, that's a thought", and go on with their lives...

Gonna keep looking for the best chess coffee shops. Have a nice day.

The ones that don't open. : )))
