Best chess move of all time

Hello, chess.com, I would like to know what you think the best move of all time is. I think the best move is Marshall's 23...Qg3 in the Levitsky-Marshall game.

Please post the entire game. Thanks.

17...Be6!

Holy Cow! I've never seen that particular Frank Marshall move. Amazing!

I've never seen a move that wins in so many different variations. Wow!

Long live 23 ... Qg3!!  (Levitsky - Marshall).

Lawdoginator

And Bobby Fischer's Game of the Century!  It is always great to play through that again.

17 ... Be6!!  What a queen sacrifice!  Both of these games feature the queen sac.

Spectacular queen sacrifices!  And kudos to Byrne for playing it out.

Lawdoginator, that is why it is my favorite move. Whatever Levitsky plays, he is hopelessly behind in material, or he gets checkmated. It wouldn't be worth it for Levitsky to keep playing!

Wow, God bless Marshall's knight. I would take that thing out to dinner after that kind of game.

1.d4.

It's such a brilliant move that at least 15% of ALL chess games feature it.

The Marshall game was referenced by Alan Alda in the movie Tower Hiest. They actually made it the theme of the entire picture.

Since you have already posted the Qg3 move, I think the most obvious contenders are -

1) Shirov's Bxh3 vs Topalov

2) Kasparov's Rxd4

3) Peter Leko's Qd3 vs Kramnik - The story goes that Kramnik with the use of computers (granted not as strong as ones today) had gone into a long prep line which went into move 25 and presumably beyond.

Kramnik and his team had worked out that the best move for Leko in that position would be to sacrifice his bishop to prevent a passed pawn from queening which would leave Kramnik with a winnable endgame.

However over the board Leko played Qd3 after which the computer evaluation went from giving an edge to Kramnik to being completely winning for Leko. Leko OTB had found a move that Kramnik and his team and a computer had missed.

Even some top computers today fail to find Qd3 in that position. The show Kramnik winning and then you play Qd3 and computers go bonkers with their evaluation.

4) A personal favorite Vishy's Bishop to c5 vs Levon. Although pretty much any move that Vishy made that game was a contender for this list. I consider that game to be the last true immortal game in chess by a Super GM.

All of them famous games that can be found on any proper chess website.

Maybe not the most brilliant, but Be8 in Reti vs Bogoljubov New York 1924 is a contender for the most beautiful move ever played.
