I'm keen on studying checkmates lately. I started studying mate patterns after I read that good chess players rely on pattern recognition more than anything.

Yea I used to love playing just casual games where they got obsessive about the structure and I just focused on the mate. Yep its all patterns you just black out the pieces on the board that cant get involved and just work out the move order.
