I really want to sharpen my middlegame skills and I feel that one of the ways I want to accomplish that is to firmly solidify the essential checkmate patterns into my brain. One of the ways I need to think during the middlegame is what threats I have at my disposal. Obviously threatening checkmate is one of these things. Will my opponents allow me to checkmate them with those patterns? Obviously a good opponent will prevent me, but at least being able to see the threat I can create means that I have a better understanding of the board state.
Thing is that to be able to solidify the patterns into my memory I'll need to see them hundreds of times in a bunch of different positions. I have no idea as to what resources would be best to practice this.
Knowing Anastasia's mate or Blackburne's mate is cool and all, but if I haven't seen them enough to be able to recognize when I can utilize them in my own games then they are useless to me.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you all.
