Black vs. White win ratios

What's a good win ratio when it comes to playing as black vs. playing as white?

Here are my stats:

Record

 WinsLossesDrawsGames
Total 52 (50%) 41 (39%) 11 (11%) 104
White 26 (52%) 16 (32%) (16%) 50 (48%)
Black 26 (48%) 25 (46%) (6%) 54 (52%)

Here, it is 48% for black and 52% for white. Does that mean anything? Does it mean I'm better as black? Or could it mean I suck playing as white?

But you've won 52/32% of your games as White compared to a more even 48/46% as Black. It would look like you're much more comfortable as White, and a tad over breaking even when playing Black. :)

In Online Chess above and blitz below, I too seem to perform better as White.

Maybe this is insightful in that we need to work on our Black repertoire.

Rule of thumb :

  • as white losses <30% and overall % ~55%
  • as black losses <40% and overall % >= 45%

...if the opposition is of similar elo strength Wink

Looks like your online scores are pretty close.

I suppose my black play could use some work. I think that will improve becuase I've been working on a response to 2. d4 and started playing the Sicilian against 1. e4

Wow, you lose alot. You must really learn alot.Laughing

(That's a joke about the old saying that you learn more from your losses)

Naw, I just play lots of drunk chess.  Plus it doesnt help that I suck in the first place.
