In one of IM Silman's article, he mentioned that Blacks dark squared Bishop is a 'powerhouse' without further elaborating.. as far as I know the dark squared Bishop plays an important part in the King Indian defense, Nizmo-Indian etc. However can someone further explain the relevance of his statement?

Is this it?--http://www.chess.com/article/view/my-favorite-classic-games-part-8

The article say,"Everyone knows that Black’s fianchettoed dark-squared bishop is a powerhouse, and everyone also knows that if you let the opponent swap dark-squared bishops Black’s kingside dark-squares can become weak, and his king can become vulnerable.

Though we all know this rule, it doesn’t mean that we have to obey it!

Indeed, there are times when trading your fianchettoed “must-keep” dark-squared bishop is exactly what the position calls for!

Why don't you reread the rest of the article and see what parts aren't clear? I doubt we can explain it as clearly as Mr. Silman did.
