i didn't know they made chess sets for that
'Blade Runner' chess set - any value?

A quick google search showed that people have spent a fair amount of time and money to recreate these sets. This picture is of a reproduction set made by an English artist and reportedly sold to Adam Savage.
There are molds sold to make your own.
Obviously the condition of yours would be the primary factor. Rather than post the clip from Blade Runner, why not post pictures of your set?

I did find a 12 page thread about the bird chess sets on a site called propsummit.com (devoted to the "art of Blade Runner") running for the last 8 years. The thread talks about the bird sets and how various people couldn't find the originals, and how people were trying to recreate them and somebody was trying to scan them to make new molds. It seems like a few people obsess over these things.
The above image is asserted to be a picture of an "original Banbury Studios" set in one of the postings dated in 2013. They reportedly made the original sets starting in 1975. It looks like your pawns are different but there are comments that the black pawns were supposed to be kingfishers instead of wrens.
At any rate, I have a feeling that if you took some good pictures and put them up on Ebay or on that blog you would get some bids or at least stir up some interest among the Blade Runner faithful. Good luck.
I am the 'English Artist' who made the chess set, the Banbury one is inaccurate , but of interest to collectors like myself, my one was made with an electroluminescent chess board , specially made to display the pieces exactly as per the film , the comments above are slightly inaccurate , the pawns should be both kingfishers and wrens , and to be accurate to the film the wren should be perched on a tree stump. The king had a real chain applied to the master, that was then cast , it was not sculpted, the only other artist known to have made a full set and really detailed chess set , was Rick Ross in the USA . I still have the molds and do occasionally get commissioned to build one. Oh an one more thing , it's both kingfishers and wrens , not the same for each , so if you have a set with just one bird type, it's a copy.
On the off chance that anyone's still following this thread, I wanted to repost a connection between chess and Blade Runner that I posted a few days ago. Here's the original post:
"Blade Runner is my all-time favorite movie, and one of the comments on agadmator's chess channel on YouTube (highly recommend, by the way!) alerted me to something I'd never realized: In the scene where Roy Batty, the main antagonist, is reciting chess moves, he's using the winning combination from the 1851 "Immortal Game" between Adolf Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritzky. And that got me thinking...
The whole movie is about a group of androids ("replicants") who are trying to find a way to exceed their built-in four-year lifespans. They've come to Earth illegally to speak to the president of the Tyrrell Corporation, the company that built them. (MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD.) When the scene takes place, Batty, the main replicant, is getting that meeting with Eldon Tyrrell by providing the winning combination to an ongoing chess game Tyrrell is playing with a low-level researcher. Three of his friends have died to get him here.
In the immortal game, Anderssen sacrifices his bishop, two rooks, and his queen to achieve checkmate. In Blade Runner, Batty gives up two heavies and his love interest (and blackmails the researcher) to get to the "king", who he kills - to become "immortal".
Mind. Blown."
Newbie here...so please be gentle!
Clearing out my parents' house today in the UK and came across a chess set that has been in their roof for at least 30 years. I reckon they bought it in around 1978
It is a British bird chess set as featured in the 'Blade Runner' movie.

Still in its original box. Two pieces very slightly damaged.
Anyone know if these are collectable? If so, can you point me in the right direction?
thanks!
