Blitz and music

Just was interested to know what people think on listening to music while playing blitz. Does fast aggressive music make you more attacking and better? Does chilled music relax you and make you better? Or does no music at all make for less distraction?

I doubt there have been any studies into this, but if there were, would we see the top players/GMs doing the same thing?

I usually listen to music when I play chess. But when I play serious games (rated against tough opponents), I usually turn off the music. Some good piece of music might give you an edge if it sets you to an inspirational state of mind. Usually this happens to me accidentally, when I listen to some music anyway, and I'm like: "Damn, this is some good shit!", and the game usually goes well. But it doesn't normally work for the second time anymore, cause then I'm kinda expecting the music to do the trick again, and it just won't.

So yeah, music might make you play better, but only if it makes you think more freely instead of occupying some of your thought processes.

Ballroom Blitz is my favourite song to listen to for bullet...

Personally if I'm listening to music I find it too much of a distraction and I almost always blunder the game. Interesting topic of discussion though.

Naturally.  But I don't play blitz.

I've found that music distracts me when I'm trying to calculate, but not when I'm trying to evaluate.  If I'm in a tactical melee, I can't listen to music.  If I'm in a long positional battle, though, upbeat/catchy music helps me keep alert (and often helps me feel better about a terrible position :-P )

I have been creating music while playing bullet chess games...
