blitz vs rapid

It is hard to say. 2000 rapid is probably the better player as for quality of moves (and overall play), but 2000 blitz might be harder to achieve because of the added necessity of learning how to handle time scrambles well.
I'm curious to hear what others have to say on this question though. This is a good forum thread topic
@1
"Which milestone is harder to reach,2000 in blitz or 2000 in rapid?" ++ 2000 blitz
"let's suppose one player is 2000 in blitz and another player is 2000 in rapid." ++ Probably the 2000 blitz.

One funny thing about rapid is that if you make a mistake,you have to regret it and suffer it's consequences for like 15 minutes. In blitz, just 2 minutes

#6 Now compare that with no. Of blitz games. Do you think 25games are enough for an online experience? I never played rapid as seriously/competitively as blitz.

2000 blitz of course.
@regalbeginning your ratings are superb. How much time and effort did it take?

Rapid there will potentially be more cheaters and people trolling (for ex. playing two moves then going to tidy up his room then playing the last minutes) which means that in a way it can be more difficult and not fun.
Otherwise just we can do a test on a chess program like Chessmaster where we'll play ranked games, one in time 5m (blitz) and the other in time 10m (rapid) then we will find that it is really much more difficult to manage in blitz than in rapid
if I take this position above and we're going to play against Stockfish in time 10m there is a strong probability that we will succeed on the other hand if it is in time 5m perhaps we will lose in time or with the pressure of the time we'll make big mistakes which will restart the game for Stockfich.
In short is obvious IMO Blitz is more difficult than rapid because it's the same game made more difficult by being forced to play and think more quickly.
After just being 2000 in the short term it can be easier in Blitz because we can win points more easily by beating stronger opponents who can potentially make more mistakes and lose time in completely winning positions but the short term that not worth much, it's the long term that matters.

Blitz is more difficult, due to the persistent time pressure.
Rapid should, in theory, lead to more challenging and accurate play from your opponents ... But rapid is also more unreliable, due to the ease with which players can consult engines during the game ...
And if you think players won't cheat in online Rapid chess, well ... Anand gave a Rapid simul a few years ago, and even there, in front a live audience, his opponent (an Indian billionaire), used engine assistance to cheat his way to a win ... in a charity event, of all things.
