Bobby Fischer: Lost Virginity at 19?

In the movie Pawn Sacrifice, Bobby Fischer was depicted to have lost his virginity to a prostitute at the ripe age of 19 years. An article published by The Guardian about this movie noted that:

"Legend has it that Henry Stockhold, a chess-playing journalist, took the 19-year-old Fischer to a brothel to lose his virginity. When Stockhold asked him how it went, Fischer is said to have replied: "Chess is better.""

I remember there was a documentary on Bobby Fischer a while ago where he was reported that he said "Chess is better" after something like what happened in the movie.

Does anyone have any more details as to this rumour? Where exactly did it originate from? I did some Google searches for "Henry Stockhold", the journalist who allegedly took him to a brothel, but I couldn't find anything. I also couldn't find any primary source materials to back these claims up, or any other reliable accounts. There are some rumours floating around these forums and there are some comments posted on a few other forums online. But that's it.

Is there anything solid to support the claim that Bobby saw a prostitute and lost his virginity at 19 (or something along those lines)? Or is this something that was simply invented by the movie. If so, I don't understand why journalists from The Guardian would fabricate these claims.

I know this is a little bit of a specific topic but it's something that's been on my mind for quite a while. Let me know what you reckon.

There are also rumours that Bobby Fischer performed badly in a tournament the day after. Any confirmation?

Fischer's tactic times are probably longer lol.

That Fisher took a long time to solve his tactical puzzles.

Following his world championship win in Reykjavik in 1972, Bobby reportedly visited a bar in Iceland with his friend and bodyguard, and two local blonde women approached him and expressed a desire to dance with Bobby. Although the details are fuzzy, he was said to have declined the offer because he thought the women were only interested in him because he was the world champion.

I've read all of your posts. Where exactly are you getting this information? What is your source?

My sources:

#1 - I read a quote to this effect on a website, which I will try to find. The site featured quotes both by Bobby and by people who knew him, regarding his relationships and personal views.

#2 - this bit of trivia can be found on several places online, as well as (I believe) in the book "Bobby Fischer: Profile of a Prodigy". I will try to find the exact passage.

#3 - I think someone mentioned this (among other places) on Fischer's message boards at chessgames.com. Can probably also be found on other websites (I will try to either find the original comment at chessgames.com or another source).

#4 - this is briefly covered in the book "Bobby Fischer Goes to War", which mainly focuses on the details surrounding the 1972 world championship match. Again, I will try to find the exact wording of the authors.

Thanks for your efforts. I'll keep a tab on this thread and will be regularly checking it.

If anyone else has information please also post it here.

What I remember from this topic is the following: "it was a tournament in Buenos Aires where all the opponents (especially the Russians) of this young star were thinking about to influence Bobby somehow to make him play worse. Then they have this luminous idea of letting him getting laid and so they organize. I didn't know his reaction of better things but I do know that from that moment on he developed his clothing style and become interested in the other sexe. Especially in looking like a gentleman.

That's quite a remarkable insight. Do you know where you got this?
