Never heard of a booster section. Have you tried contacting the TD?
Booster Sections in OTB Tournaments

So I'm just getting into OTB and have played in 3 tournaments. I'm 40 years old, have known how to move pieces since I was 8, but never took time to learn strategy and really play.
In the tournaments, I've played 10 games, and have had to face many young kids (10 or under)... only 4 adults. (1700, 1500, 1000, and 900), 900 blundered, getting me a W.
I am provisionally low rated, and would like to play other adults closer to my level. I found a "booster" section for sub 900 players locally, but now I'm wondering if this is meant for kids. The other sections tend to be 1200+, and I'm not that strong yet.
Is the booster section made for kids? I'd rather play up a little, and take the learning opportunity, than to play 400-600 rated kids under 12. Not really doing either one of us a favor.
Would appreciate advice. Thanks
Bert
That really depends on your area. In general, the lower rated players are likely to be kids but you'll also likely find some adults that may be getting back into chess and have no rating or old low ratings as well. As @IMBacon says, your best bet would be to either contact the TD or look for previous event they've held to see what ratings normally look like and if you're interested, you can check each player to see if they are under 18.
