Bored by openings?

I don't know about others, but I find the opening few moves in chess boring and sometimes, especially in OTB games on an evening for my local club, can barely stay awake (especially after being at work all day). When I've got to the middle game, my interest has usually waned and can't be bothered to find any decent continuations, especially when all my pieces are out. I find the end game far more exciting and usually perk up a bit. Thing is, would I have a more superior chance in the endgame if I hadn't lost interest in the opening and middle games? Or is this the same for most people?

the opening takes the least time of the game though? usually moves are blitzed out and then theres only maybe 5 moves each side thinks in before the middle game starts.

does it usually take a long time for your opponents to play their opening moves?

Opening is the hardest part of chess stage (for me) because of memorizing too many chess theories and variations but still quite interesting. Not too bored because if I play good in opening, then easy middlegame and endgame will come after the good opening.

Well, what i do to avoid all the memorizing is to minimize my openings and defences. That way i can learn a few openings well it works for me.

Yea, good point. sometimes that is the case of opponents taking to long. Like I said, it's not easy to stay awake when you've been to work all day and have probably been awake for a good 14 hours by the time your match starts and there's nothing moving on the board.

If I'm playing for my club, I try to minimalise my openings, because as we play in a team, you don't really want to play anything unfamiliar incase you mess up. Personally I would prefer to play wild opening moves to make it more interesting.

I played a live game here where the opponent took 20 minutes for their second move.  That one was boring!  In the end, they were playing a 10 minute game and I was playing a 30 minute.

How about focus on the basic ideas on a certain opening. Because if you don't know many opening theories and your opponent use that against you, that was so confusing. Frown
