Bobby Fischer: "Blitz chess kills your ideas"
And that was about blitz...bullet is even worse.
It's a chess variant. I support always referring to it as "Bullet Chess" or simply "Bullet". Very disappointing when you meet a new chess player and learn all they play is endless rounds of Bullet chess online. It's difficult to find players who play long time controls on a daily basis.

Are you pulling my leg?????????? Did Bobby Fischer really say that? Are you spoofing me? When. Where. To Whom?
You don't need skill to win a bullet game. I've seen people post games on here saying look at my great win when it's nothing more than a bullet game won on time down 6 points of material. While back someone ( might've been robert_new_alekhine) posted a bullet game where all he did was play e4 and then premove his queen all over the board and won the game. It's not chess, it's a variant. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's chess. You can be the fastest player in the world, but if you are shit you will lose.
It just has less emphasis on strategy and more on speed.
I'm sure it is addictive and that's one reason I don't want to play it. I'm currently trying to kick my blitz addiction, I don't need another one lol.

Oops hit post to soon lol. I was going to say, long story short, is that I started played bullet and found out its wildly addictive.
Bullet drives me crazy.. I am using a tablet pc and I never seem to be able to press quickly enough. The result is that my normal rating is about 1700+ while my bullet is about 1350... But it IS chess. It helps you to avoid time trouble in blitz and normal games. I also have problems with the Live Chess application in bullet games.
Of course its chess. If you can brag about winning by .01 seconds, and being 5 pieces down go for it! I think it instills bad habits that affect your real chess game.

Agree...However some of the beauty of otb chess and seeing your opponent is gone. Sad but we live and adjust...It will probably never change.. On theBright side there will be less old lonely people, they can just hop on here and even chat instead of waiting for someone, or not having anyone to play..

Awesome post

I won a 30/0 game with 0.1 left. Now that was intense! I had to crank out like a dozen premoves to finish him. He was mad lol.

It has always struck me that a lot of players in this site seem to like what they call "bullet chess", for reasons that are unknown still today.
But is "bullet chess" real chess?
The answer is a clear NO.
When you play bullet (since now, I will not say "bullet chess" because its a contradiction in itself), one of the most common time controls is 1/0 for each player.
Basically, with that time control you rely on "premoves" to be able to play more than 30 moves (which, as we know, it's a very short match).
But, what's the real problem with those "premoves"?
Well, the problem is that you cannot make "premoves" if you are physically in front of your opponent. Chess wasn't invented as a game to be played on a computer, but as a game to be played with both players present PHYSICALLY. We obviously agree that doesn't mean that playing chess online is against the spirit of chess. Not at all. I just mean that if it is impossible to play bullet on a PHYSICAL BOARD, you shouldn't be able to do it with a COMPUTER.
Another reason I have (and I'm certainly not the only one) against bullet being considered chess is the fact that moves that, in normal play, would be called "blunders", are regarded as "bullet tactics" in bullet games. And by that I mean: random material "sacrifices" just to make the opponent think 1 second more. Another type of so called "bullet tactic" is, for example, to threaten a queen with your unprotected rook. The opponent doesn't expect that and may have chosen a premove that makes him lose the queen.
Basically, when you play bullet, you don't play to checkmate the opponent. You play to be faster than the opponent. And that's not the purpose of chess.
I'm not against people playing bullet. They are free to do it. But calling it "bullet chess" is simply an insult to the best game ever created.
