Can I try playing chess with myself, just for a little training?

I mean, if I do, I will play unrated matches, I wouldn't just use it as an easy way to get elo, it's just for me to get a better unterstanding of chess moves. Is this against the rules or can I do it?

You can draw a board on a piece of paper and use whatever you want as pieces… play away.

Yeah, maybe... But it isn't the same thing, I guess

If you mean you play this account against another of your own accounts (even in unrated), this isn't allowed.

You can however, just turn off engine lines in the analysis board and play against yourself this way. Bonus is that when you are done, you are already in the analysis board to review the game! happy.png

As Magnus said “sit at the board and play with yourself. It’s amazing” 😂😂 you don’t need a second account to play against yourself, you can use analysis with lines off or the pass and play feature on the mobile app.

Take one of your games and analyze it, see what happens if you do this and they do that. Sort of the same thing but you actually learn this way.

I used to do this to discover new middlegame ideas and get a feel for the position for OTB tournaments
