Can Someone Get Banned If They Cheat In One Game

I am 99% sure that a player I am playing against is using an engine against me. However I have gone through their games and I don't think they have used an engine before. It is a daily match, is there any chance I can get my rating points refunded when I inevitably lose, if it turns out he did use an engine?

So once you lose, if the player is deemed to violating the fair play policy, your points will be refunded to as if you won. If the user is NOT banned, then the points are not going to change. Make sure you report the username. It all depends on their rating, and their accuracy mostly.

It is very noticeable if a user is cheating, and it will go through a fair play specialist that will make sure to make the right call. Chess.com tends to be very strict on their members, so most likely if you think they are cheating, you are probably right. Chess.com does not take chances.

Chess.com does take cheating very seriously, but the vast majority of cheat claims and accusations are unfounded. The site also wants to be absolutely certain of a fair play violation and will only close accounts where there is a high confidence.

On average, cheating incidences are around 0.2%

@inkium it is possible, in an extreme case, that one game could be enough to close an account. If you really feel another member is using disallowed resources, you should report them.

If an account is closed for fair play violations, due to games in a pool where you lost against them, you'll be refunded points in most cases.

That said, discussions of cheating, potential cheating, or cheat detection are not allowed in the general forums.
