Can strong or titled players remember colour of each square? Is this possible?

What I do is remember white king starts on black square and work my way to the square to figure out white of black

As for titled players, I don’t know

I'm talking about blindfold of course here.

I'm sure most strong players, titled players, especially GM's can play blindfold and of course they would be familiar with each square on the board, where it's located. Like d5 or f3 or h2 they will know where it is ,  BUT

The question is can they name the colour of each square blindfolded !?

For example if you ask them f6 which colour?

D7 which colour?

Black or white?  Can they actually do that?

I'm really curious.

Maybe😉

I suck at blindfold chess😂

You don't need to be titled to do that. A titled player can probably do it very quickly, with little thought. I can do it, but some squares may take me longer to do.

easily

What they should do is have a colorless board and see how strong players perform then in blitz games.

I think any titled player would be able to do this effortlessly. I can do it, perhaps with a bit of difficulty but I can do it. So I am sure a titled player would be able to do it.

Any OTB player 1800 or more should be able to tell you the color and a lot more.

Yes, this is easy
chessguy_888

Does it really matter if you can memorize the color or not?

Nwap111

Yes it does chessguy.

yep

is this really a question ? not trying to be rude, I suck at chess, but this isnt difficult.

A,C,E,G odd numbers black

B,D,F,H even numbers black.

obviously vice versa for white squares.  so if I said a4, has to be white.

You need only know the colors of half the squares, if that.

It is not a question of knowing even and odd numbers.  You must "see" the square.  It is like thinking in a foreign language versus translating.

not sure what you mean.  the question specifically said,

Someone was giving a formula for remembering which squares are black and white.  I was saying that "seeing" was important, not memorizing some formula.  Is that clearer?
