That's weird. I thought it could. When the piece was pinned to it's king, of course.
Think of it like this, if he uses his pinned piece to take your king, which king dies first?
A king can never move into check.

Right. After all, if you're going to allow yourself to bend the rules and move into check, then the other fellow could bend the rules and move his pinned piece exposing himself to check. Except in doing so he would capture your King and the game would be over, so you'd never get the opportunity to act on his King being in check.
