Can there be 18 queens?

Can there be 18 queens at any given time in a chess game? I mean, it looks a bit possible, given that if you can promote all 8 pawns and keep your original queen alive, you have 9 queens.

You also have to surround the king with pieces so that he doesn't get checkmated.

So here's my best attempt at getting 18 queens in a standard chess game.

Okay, I got 9 queens before checkmate. You can put in the comments if you manage to get 18 queens.

Yes, it is possible to get 18 queens on the board.  The key is to use doubled pawns to your advantage.
