Can we have an engine analysis during our own live games?

I think that it would be nice if chess.com gave us the ability to analyze our live games with an engine while we are playing them. I would like to know who is winning and what moves are best for each player. Sometimes, I'm not sure what the best move is and having access to an engine would help. Thoughts?

SqueakyCrab

i don't know maybe ask chess.com or other peple

SqueakyCrab

i think that would be cheating

TerrorEyes666

this is a joke post right? it's kind of an honor system but we have to hope and trust that our opponents aren't doing this. it would really defeat the purpose.

SqueakyCrab

I wasn't joking when I said that I don't always know what the best move to make is. I think that implementing this idea would make play sharper and would prevent blunders.

The default stance is that computers and outside help are NOT allowed! However, if a game is going to allow computer or outside help it will be clearly noted in the game description.

No Cheating or Computer Help

  • You can NEVER use chess programs (Chessmaster, Fritz, etc) to analyze current ongoing games unless specifically permitted (such as a computer tournament, etc). The only type of computer assistance allowed is games databases for opening lines in Turn-based Chess and Vote Chess. You cannot receive ANY outside assistance on Live Chess games.

Seriously, this is definitely not allowed. If you're doing that, of course you would play better. But it wouldn't really be you playing, it would be the computer. And computers beat grandmasters easily. The point of playing chess is mostly the challenge. If the computer is playing for you, then where's the challenge? And of course, it is completely common sense that it just isn't right. And that's why the people won't let you keep playing like that, and ban you.

SqueakyCrab

ya its not allowed

DetectiveRams

I'm going to point out a number of flaws:

1) That's Cheating... Which means you will get banned.

2) What's the point of playing if it's a battle of the better engine, not the player.

3) It doesn't require  real thinking like during normal chess.

4) Why would you want to always play the 'best' move. Most games would end in a draw. And besides, what makes chess fun is the inaccuracies and the original thought that goes into plans, even if they don't always work.

5) Player's who have spent their lives studying chess, only to be taken over by some tech wielding amateurs, will lose their way of life.

6) No one wants to watch a game where they know the outcome.

Anyway that's all i have to say in response to your comment.

And did you mention that you have to access an engine for help during live games? I think that confession deserves to get you banned.

And finally, i think this is a troll thread.

SqueakyCrab

i know thats cheating

DetectiveRams

Thank God...

Besides everyone knows it's cheating

@A_G_A your idea is cheap and doesn't have any real weight. When you play chess, play with integrity. When someone plays a game with you, they are trusting that you play fairly. Don't break that trust.

At that point "know who is winning and what moves are best for each player" you are no longer playing YOUR game, you are either a robot making moves for the engine or you are teaming with an engine.

Not knowing if your position or your strategy is superior is part of the thrill of victory and agony of defeat of chess.

Even in daily games, where players are allowed to consult openings resources and play through variations on a separate board, they are not allowed to consult an engine, because as soon as you do you are no longer playing the game by yourself.

You're not a fool. You're just joking.

Ok guys, let's face the facts. No one is dumb enough to believe that it is fair to use engines during a game, and no one is dumb enough to state it on a forum if they do do that. I've seen a couple of this  guy's games, and it is quite obvious his moves aren't engine level sophisticated. And for that reason, i'm gonna call this topic a troll, and believe that this guy is kidding.
