CAS Hearing Scheduled In FIDE-Karpov Election Matter

I am told that CAS in Switzerland has scheduled a hearing on the Karpov team's challenge to Kirsan's candidacy.  The hearing will be in September, prior to the FIDE meeting in Siberia.  White & Case have a full time team of five or six lawyers working on preparing Karpov's case for hearing.

It all seems very murky.

Meanwhile, many experts believe that Karpov’s victory depends largely on the court case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne. Karpov questions the validity of Ilyumzhinov’s claim to have been nominated by the Russian Chess Federation as their candidate for the FIDE presidential elections. Besides, the validity of Ilyumzhinov’s nomination by Argentina and Mexico is also questioned, as is Mrs. Beatriz Marinello’s nomination by Chile and Brazil (relevant because a team must include a female delegate).

Question: Can Ilyumzhinov cheat his re-election in the end? Isn't the process going to be a live voting system, or are they going to count his-word-vs-my-word as votes?

If it is the later, then the current FIDE is one funky organization IMO!

In the world of politics, anything is possible, or should I say, anything can be "made possible".

The more I read about the coming FIDE elections, the more out of this world they seem.

While I really dislike the current fella, I'm not so sure I want Karpov to rule either, he has a history of making sure he gets the upper hand whenever the has the possibility to do so. Exchanging one corrupt president for another doesn't seem like a genuine improvement.

above link shows the goings on of the voting process. From the votes cast, Karpov was more popular, but it seems more of a rivalry between the chess federations than anything else.

Now that makes the FIDE voting process looks more like an electoral voting system.

Can't we all just play some chess?

Ilyumzhinov vs Karpov over the board?

It won't be a match. It'll be euthanasia even if Anatoly had queen odds. Laughing
