Castle 3 times

My wife (a non chess player) - says she was bored at work and was looking at some chess stuff on th internet to see what all the fuss is about - she says she found a site that mentioned a game where there where 3 episodes of castling????

She helpfully wrote it down Heidenfled - Kerins Dublin 1973

I don't have a database to find the game and think she is wrong or winding me up  - I didn't think this sort of thing was legal anyway?

Anyone shed any light on this?

hehe that made me think of a thought i had a while ago:

The players castled White on move 10 and Black on move 16.

They castled twice.

I found this: http://www.xs4all.nl/~timkr/records/records.htm

you have to look in the Moves sections and click "Greatest number of castlings"

I'l have to play it out on a board but it looks like it'll be interesting. I don't see how the opponent could let that happen.

Gomer_Pyle, you can play that game in the applet on the right side of the page. White castled kingside, then traded off his f1 rook, moved his king to e1 and castled queenside, and his opponent didn't notice, apparently.

You're right. I didn't notice that I could select the game with the drop-down (after changing my Firefox settings). Thanks.

hehehehehehe, that's very funny: "Greatest number of castlings: 3", as if it's allowed...

And funny because I imagine the white player: "Oh, let me try castling again, I'm pretty sure black won't see I've castled before" Smile

Well, I think it stands if neither the arbiter or the other player catch it. But letting it stand may have been intentional as the guy who castles twice lost. I’m pretty sure it was illegal even then, though. A really rare find would be a then-legal serious game with the move 0-0-0-0-0-0, styxtwo’s “3D castling,” but it’s possible there never was one, and of course, there can’t be one in the future unless the rules are changed again. But I tried to make up a plausible game above where it wouldn’t be ridiculous to play.
