Castle after being checked?

They can't castle when they are in check or when an opponent's piece is covering one of the castling squares. Past checks don't affect this, just current ones.

With the exception of Super Bishops, which when they give check they give what's called Lasting Check.

This is very rare though.

Someone mentioned the other day that they'd played with people who used that rule, but I'd never run across it before. It's a very odd variant, not a standard rule.

It is much more common that you will encounter a sensitive and insecure king, who is outraged at having been checked and refuses to cooperate for most of the game thereafter.

You can be checked and still castle, as long as you block the check
