Can a king checkmate a king (I already know the answer)?

Jion_Wansu

yup

Jion_Wansu

Wonder of any games where the king checkmates:

Here's a made up game:

You CAN'T checkmate by a K. These are both checkmate by R. Duh.

ChessRunner36

Yes but what they meant was that a king move mates

I remember the Lasker v. Thomas example. The checkmate would have been even prettier if Lasker had chosen 18. O-O-O# instead of 18. Kd2#.

what we're posting are games where the king delivers checkmate (executing the mating move).

The OP's question is, precisely: "Can a king checkmate a king...?"

Duh!!! Innocent

Jion_Wansu

Yes, technically a king can check and checkmate opposing king

17. Rh2+Kg118. Kd2#

Why didn't White play O-O-O#?

I think this may be the fastest possible checkmate with a king

Mr. MeTristan (post #21), very nice (cough...cough) except it is illegal to put your K in check.

Till_98

you can! The one who is faster capturing the opponents king wins the game...

Horrid choice of pieces!

Now, all these are just examples of discovered attacks, in which the K played a role. And post #21 is illegal.

No it's not. Did the rook move?

whirlwind2011

@Jion_Wansu: The Rook is the checkmating piece in both examples. The King moves would not have won the games if not for the Rooks.

Jion_Wansu

But the king checkmated because of Kh5#
