No troll or idiot please. Lion has blocked some we don't need.
Feed the Lion.
I think that Chess helps people see the world ina more logical way, but just because you play chess, it doesn’t automatically make you a genius. There also really stupid people playing chess, and unless you are a really good GM like Carlsen i don’t think you’re automatically smart. There also people who memorize thousands of lines, and those people do not necessarily have a very good IQ.
So how about getting to IM or GM level? Any master player below say, 120 IQ? What if top 40 player were tested... would Carlsen have highest IQ?!
Robert James Fischer definitely had a high IQ of 187. No wonder he wrecked everyone.
People with Autism spectrum and Antisocial behaviours are usually good at chess because they dont need to spend time in socializing with people.
If you are good at chess, you are likely one of those personality type.
P.S, speak from a doctor point of view, not a troll.
Invite 949.He probably knows enough about this subject to write a book.
well, he thinks he does.
i've never known anyone to constantly speak of themselves in the third person as much as this tool.
does anyone get the strange suspicion that ironic refers to himself as 949 in real life?
yes, you need a high iq to effectively kick ass and be self centered enough to make it totally to the top. you need military strategy of the highest order. you need to plan, prepare, get the right sleep, go out with girls that bit less than average, limit caffeine, tv, newspapers. you need to be the DUDE!! man that takes a whopping iq
i would be all over this....
....except for limiting caffeine.
and, there is only one dude.
IQ is a test that measures some specific aspects of intelligence, notably pattern recognition which is very important for chess.
I'd say that having a high IQ is probably a requirement to be a pro chess player, but not to be a good player. You could probably get to at least the 90th percentile of chess players just by grinding harder than everyone else.
Also this is probably self-evident but having a high IQ does not mean you are good at chess. I know some people who are very smart but absolutely terrible at chess because they barely ever play.
'You could probably get to at least the 90th percentile of chess players just by grinding harder than everyone else' (maxiluc). Much would depend on the mix of high IQs and grinders involved at any particular decile level, and in any case these classes would require clear identification. Most people are probably a mix of both qualities. A properly prepared research project would be needed. It would be a massive undertaking and require a persuasive case to be made to prospective funders.
Hi, I just found out that I got the maximum score on the Mensa test.
This sort of bragging almost always accompanies sub-standard ability.
Hi people... what part does IQ play in relation to Chess ability? Are Chess player more clever than most? Are high IQ people drawn to Chess? What sort of IQ is needing for master level? No politic, thanks.
