Chess and football are similar

With neither of them. . . I would say...
In American football you have "heavy tanks" opposing your rival, expecting a "light intelligence sevice man" to get through enemy lines. A lot of muscle (guns) covering the escape of an "special tricky service agent".
In world (soccer) football you have spread a lot of normal weight (welter)"agents" whose job is to infiltrate, using "brains" more than "force", and then shoot all of the suden, and by surprise if possible. If thing do not go as desired...turn back and start again.
If there is, and I repeat, if there is, a comparison binding, it would be with soccer.
Getting farther ahead. . .it compares better with baseball and basket ball. Here, in both of them, you first think, plan, and then try to execute. . . or with billiards.
If nothing is of your liking, lets try tenis. . .or swiming. . .or better, Go, I meaan the Jap game, not your going way without saying So Long. . .

Yes, chess and football are very similar. You have to select a good formattion ( 4-4-2 or 3-5- 2 etc. Vs different openings), you have to control the mid field ( centre square), you should place players well connected and form an attack simultaneously with a number of players ( 3 or more) to get the result (goal vs checkmate). By the way, is there rule of OFF SIDE in chess? Yes! It is EN PASSANT!
