Most of the best tactics problems DON'T end in mate, as far as I'm concerned - since very few chess games end with some exotic multi-move tactical mate. The best problems are realistic ones where you win something, material or otherwise. Just one view, of course.

I realize that; the reviewer clearly didn't. The fact that he complained about it, though, makes me think that the problems in shredder chess might be similar to the tactics trainer on this site, and therefore something I may want to get.

you are going to be REALLY happy in just a few weeks :) our app is almost done. it includes everything you mentioned, and a bit more ;)

Sounds awesome. I assume you'll let everyone know here when it's all done.

Sounds awesome! It will be nice to be able to check my online games on my phone. I like the turn based games you have here, but I'm not always near a computer for much of my free time.
I will eagerly await it's release, Erik.

Will it be a paid or free app? I have encountered very few chess apps with online play, and those that do, fail horribly, either with the interface or controls. I can't wait!

free for all to play online and vs. computer. tactics and videos follow membership levels on chess.com.
There are quite a few chess apps for iPhone. I thought this would be a good place to review them and maybe we'll find some apps we didn't know about.
I have a few. I have:
-Deep Green Lite (nice to play vs. computer, free)
-Chess With Friends (play against real people; can do random opponents or people from your contact list, free)
-Great Chess Games (replay games of many of the greats)
-Problems (LOTS of chess compositions, has both directmates and helpmates, 4 levels of difficulty)
Does anyone have Shredder Chess? Is the puzzle function like a tactics trainer kind of thing? I ask because I saw someone complain in the reviews that the positions seem totally random and some of the solutions don't end in checkmate. I hesitate to just buy it since it's $10. The reviews seem very positive, though.
Last of all, does anyone know an app that is/has something like the tactics trainer here or on chesstempo.com? I'd kill for one to kill time, since my job involves a lot of dead time and waiting.
