Chess apps for Linux?

Hey people. OS of choice is Linux (openSuse currently), and I'm just wondering if any of you could recommend some apps, pay for or free doesn't matter. I'm specifically looking for something to help me with my weakness, openings.

Thanks

Well, I'm pretty new with ubuntu, and at the moment, I only use SCID with the toga2 and stockfish engines. It feels like a serious downgrade from chessbase, but I don't know any better software at the moment.

ShredderClassic has a linux version, and although I already have the windows version, maybe I'll buy it some time. I think it's the single best software for playing against, it's strength is adjustable and plays very realistically at different levels. It's GUI is also decent enough for some database operations.

My next step will be trying to install wine and use Arena and/or ChessDB, but I'm a noob in that area.

Shredder has a current Linux version too (Deep Shredder 12) I've actually got the Windows version but it runs well enough with Wine. Ubuntu is great for people looking for a change or whatever. It's easy enough to use, so is opensuse. I used slackware for many years, compiling my own software and blah blah blah. Now I use this and I am just as happy. I've found some great opening software, but it's all for Windows Cry. Wine wont have any part of it either, guess I'll give a few a shot in CrossoverLinux and see what happens.

I posted a similar question on my slashdot.org submission page.  But in my case I want to use open source software to make chess diagrams.  Specificly print out multiple diagrams in a certain layout on one page.  If anyone has any ideas, please post them.

To answer your original question, you should visit sourceforge.net page and type chess in the search box.  There are very few commercial chess programs for Linux, but the search showed 713 results for open source programs.  The one called Chess Training Tools  looks good for you.

i use shredder 12 on my Linux machine - it's great.

What did you do with Chessbase that you can't do with Scid?

Hmm, thanks realproto. Did find that Chess Training Tools, unfortunately I cant seem to find where it helps with openings, although it says it does openings in it description... I did find one Linux opening tool but it's CLI only, and isn't too interactive. So the search continues.
