Chess Bots

Hi,

I think I asked this a while ago, but I wanted to check if anything has changed.

Is there a protocol or API I can use to allow my chess program to play on the server vs humans?

It's about 2000 strength. At the moment it plays at a few other places 24/7, but there are a lot more players here.

It's my own program, called Vice, which was made as a tutorial series teaching people to write chess engines.

Is this something I should directly ask Chess.com about?

Thanks in advance

I think you will need to ask chess.com about it directly. If they even allow you to set it up, it almost certainly will be only for unrated play. Currently I only know about bots for Komodo and Stockfish.

Ok, will do!

thanks very much for the help.

You are misunderstanding.

On those other sites I have an account for my engine, it’s visible as a bot. It seeks games and people can play it. It’s about 2000 rating, and played 1000s of games.

I was wondering if it’s possible to do the same on Chess.com: on some of the other places you can, but you cannot seek - players have to match you.

It has nothing to do with playing with computer assistance.

What’s the point of having it play here? Just wondering.

Great question - purely the enjoyment of seeing it play people.

A lot of work goes into writing it, it’s great seeing it play.

On other servers bots of lower rating become quite popular - they play a more realistic game than a handicapped super bot.

Thanks for asking.

I don't speak Jabberwock so some of those terms you used look very strange and disconcerting to me. Sorry for the misunderstanding but I'm a good little piggy so as far as I see it, chess.com is the ONLY chess site on the internet.

No problem, no need to apologize.

It's probably best to contact site management through Help --> Ask a Question --> Contact.

@666BuffChix - enough trolling about Chess.com policies, and about your supposed reasons for your earlier muting unless you PM me some verifiable info. First and final warning.

Done, thanks for the help. I have a feeling it is a long shot, but we will see happy.png

I wish you the best. I suspect you are right that it is a long shot. But you never know until you ask.

This is not currently permitted, but I believe it's on the todo list, and it's something I've requested too.

You can, of course, use engine assistance in unrated games if both players agree to allow it, but that's not the same as a clearly-designated bot account.
