Chess Chat Thread

Had this idea for a while. Maybe it works, maybe not. Anyway sometimes I just want to chat about chess without creating a new thread every time. Kind of like the way some of us chat about sports with friends and whatnot. Come to this thread, say whatever you want related to chess.

I'll start. Pretty sweet that Kasparov is coming back. I think the man still has it in him. I'm sure he'll have to prepare a lot but he's still Kasparov

Like an open chat room, but chess related.

These days, It seems as when a tournament starts, half the people resign on the first move. This was the standings after just a few minutes on the long time control  15|10.

Yes he does, although I'd say it's strange how he's coming back for rapid/blitz but not classical.

He prepared like a beast last year, 18000 tactic puzzles completed as part of his prep apparently. Good to see him playing. The only game that sticks in my mind from last year was that demolition that Wesley So gave him. Perhaps some revenge will be forthcoming.

Yeah I am so excited that he is coming back - it means he thinks he can still have a go at the top level. Would love to see him play classical (like boyangzhao said). But for now I am really looking forward to Kasparov - Carlsen in the future

Maybe it's like a warm up or trial run to see how he fares.

I remember that. He dished out a few beatings himself though, didn't he?

Can we be ourselves here?

Yep. Just gotta keep it chess related so they don't move the thread.

Yes I think he finished 3/4 above Caruana. Is it top 3 in Sinqufield plus Kasparov?

what you guys think of this game i played

Good job keeping the pressure on. You used a lot of pieces to attack.

Not sure, I'd have to look it up. Trying to remember if Kasparov beat So in that tournament in their first encounter.

Nice game Butterz. Your opponent butchered the opening.

I actually watched this video a few days ago. When he played Bg4 I heard Fischer's voice saying "this is a weak move already".

I remember that, he quoted Steinitz. I remember thinking it was cool that he was using algebraic notation at a time when most used descriptive.

This set's kind of neat

Can't believe there isn't a member on this site that has the name "CounterPlay".  That would be a pretty sweet chess name.

Kasparov time has passed. A champion can't hold the #1 spot forever...he just motivates younger players to work harder than every to achieve what people htought were never possible...I have no doubt that in 100 years or so we will have a FIDE 3000 rated human
