I agree with the first ban, this is a chess website filled with young people, so talking about those topics is definitely not appropriate. The second ban is confusing. They banned you because of your DM's? If it isn't anything illegal or disgusting, I have no idea why they would do that.
In conclusion, I don't have enough info on this, like what exactly you talked about in the off-topic forums or what your DMs look like. But my best advice is to stay away from off-topic forums; those places are strange.
Chess.com account banned unfairly for abuse

I agree with you Macca, and to @Sensei-T, no, OTF is NOT strange, it's just that there are some people which are strange. It's saddening to know this, especially since I know many people who keep talking about s-. We come here to find support, so I personally think it should be fine. Unfortunately, I may be wrong, but I don't think the ToS showed that we couldn't talk bout it? I never did, just talked about sadness.
I created my account in June 2024 during a tough time in my life. I met someone in an online game who encouraged me to join the site so we could stay in touch, and we became close friends. I never shared anything too personal, though, due to safety concerns.
A month later, I discovered the 'Off-Topic' forum and made many new friends. I spent a lot of my free time there. However, on August 29, 2024, my account was banned for 'abuse.' I was confused, as I had never received any explanation or warnings. After a frustrating 2-month battle with support, I learned my ban was due to mentioning suicidal thoughts. They admitted the mistake and reinstated my account by November 2024.
Things improved for a while, but on February 22, 2025, my account was banned again, this time without explanation. I reached out to support and even spoke to a staff member on Reddit, who mentioned the issue was related to DMs but couldn't provide details. After a week of silence, I was given a second chance account, and by March 11, I was back on the forum.
Then, my new account was muted, and on March 25, it was banned again.
The constant uncertainty and loss of my online support system was crushing. Despite repeated attempts to contact staff and post on the subreddit, I got no meaningful responses. After a few weeks, I was permanently banned from the subreddit without explanation, and support ignored my follow up appeals.
It feels like they made a mistake with my February ban and are now shutting me out to cover it up. What’s confusing is that after my August ban, I was reinstated without a second chance account, but after February, they offered me one. I’ve received dismissive responses from support, and my detailed appeals seem to be ignored.
This isn't just about me. Many users have faced unfair bans, lack of transparency, and ignored support tickets. It's a pattern that needs to be addressed. I just want a clear answer: why are they silencing me instead of being honest about the situation?
I’ve also been struggling with nostalgia for the time when I first joined the site, and I’m hoping someone can help me figure this out. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you have any advice, I'd really appreciate it.
