Sounds like they'd lose a lot of money, but i kind of like the idea.
But i would be reluctant to leave the Class E players without any help -- they're the ones who need the benefits of premium membership more than anyone.
And maybe (and this would go for all of the Classes) the free upgraded membership should be revoked if it isn't utilized on a regular basis.
But, again, this whole thing sounds like -- from a business perspective -- a bad idea.
I've been pondering one issue for quite a while, and have concluded that chess.com should offer more title certification here, and give more benefits.
As we are all aware of, GMs, IMs, etc. down to NMs, get a *FREE* diamond membership, and the icon next to their names indicating their prestige.
It would be nice if chess.com could offer free memberships to players of lesser, but still rather admirable stature.
For example:
* "Experts" should get an "Ex" next to their name, and free diamond membership for 6 months, then platinum for 6 months, and repeating.
* "Class A" players should get an "A" next to their name, and free platinum membership.
* "Class B" players should get a "B" next to their name, and free platinum membership for 6 months, then gold membership for 6 months.
* "Class C" players should get a "C" next to their name, and free gold membership.
*"Class D" players should get a "D" next to their name, and free gold membership for 6 months, no membership for the next 6 months.
Class E players are too weak, and deserve no membership.
What do you think about this idea? I think it's rather brilliant.
