I tried to start something like this a month ago, but not many responses. Can i find all these documentarys on google video, youtube etc? if so i would be superhappy.
Chess Documentaries

ciggies... you've got to give me a link to the Tompkins Park chess movie... Hell man, if it was made anytime between 1983 and 1993 I'd have to be in it. Please send me the link.
*EDIT* Well I found the Fargo films site and the outtake picture shows a guy in a red hat playing chess, that's Chris! I've played him a mazillion times! A dollar a game... he won most of the time. We were all terrible patzers back then. Dang, does that bring back memories... I can smell the beery peed-behind-a-tree funk mixed with fried food wafting over from Leshko's and somebodies joint and someone else's rollyourown tobacco the sun coming down thru the trees and punks and homeless making their livin'-in-public racket yelling about what not and everyone yakking in some bizarre accent or another and Emil... EMIL! Half-homeless old, battered, tattered and broke but with the most extraordinary elegant manners, a philospher of mischief with a blazing sparkle in his eye, always up to some prank, some absurd story... Emil, bouncing some black clad punk rocker chick on his knee and talking her into panhandling him a beer! He had had more 'girlfriends' than teeth! And not a bad chess player at all... I'll always remember our very first chess game, in the Life Cafe, when Emil midway through our game suddenly declared that our position was simply too good for us, we were not worthy of it, and in the most good-natured way possible refused to continue! Ahaha... Ou sont les neiges D'antan?

I don't know of any other chess documentaries myself, but elsewhere on the forums here someone recommended a UK tv series from the 80's called 'Battlefields of the Mind':

I cant find "Tomkins park" or "men who would be kings" anywhere whatsoever!!! I want to watch them super bad, does anyone know where i can find them, neither one of the links in the forum lead me to the movies.

bobby fischer vs. the world explored the life of fischer, paying special attention to his world title match against boris spassky, then leading onto his mental disintegration ... worth a watch!

I would be surprised if Bill Wall hasn't some info to add to this list. I know he did an article on chess movies and other subjects that were very extensive.
He posts here but also has his own webpage. Just search for Bill Wall & see what comes up.
This is a good post. Too bad it has lingered in limbo but I will definitely check out some of these. Thanks, ciggies. Where ever you are.

Haven’t seen a thread dedicated to Chess Documentaries rather than films so thought I would start one and list some of the documentaries I’ve found online. Not knowing the copyright status on each I haven’t provided links but most can be found using Google or are available on Youtube.
Would be great if anyone knew of others.
Game Over: Kasparov and the Machine
Perhaps the most well known chess documentary looking at Kasparov’s 1997 match against IBM’s Deep Blue.

Miro Reverby’s ‘Men who Would be Kings’
Interesting documentary looking at Washington Square Park and the Manhattan Chess Club during the 1980’s.
Street Chess Movie
Have only seen a 7-minute trailer but looks like a documentary on street chess in San Francisco. Very interesting and would love to know more.

Anything to Win: The mad Genius of Bobby Fischer
Fischer documentary.

Short documentary about chess players in Chicago’s South Side.
