I am fairly new to chess.com and have a few questions.

1. How can I instant message my friends, when they are online? I send messages, but they don't always check messages via the message tab.

2. How do you get points? And what are they for?

3.What's the best way to raise my ranking? (other then winning every game) Should I play computer more than people?

For instant messaging on chess.com you can use meebo chat.  To use meebo you have to have the person you want to message in your friends list.

To get points you have to post forums or answer forums.

To get your rating up the computer is much much easier than a human!
