Chess in Paris, France.

I'm back from a week in Paris, France and I was lucky enough to have time to play chess at the Jardin Du Luxembourg. In this huge park amateur chess players of all strength meet and there can be several dozens of games going on. Definitely worth to stop by if you're ever in Paris.

It is very central and easily accessible by bus, metro or train.

Because it's outdoor it's very pleasant to play there when the weather is nice, but part of the area is sheltered so eventual rain is not a problem.

Brings back great memories from the past...anyone visiting Paris should make time, the atmosphere is difficult to describe...

I have been there years ago and its great to hear chess is alive!  Love Paris, and the people!!! Oh I married a French girl Wink

There is a vivid contrast between the quiet of the park and the fire on the boards. Most games are played on short time control,  5 minutes and 3 minutes game. That makes the atmosphere quite intense!

In December it's a bit rainy, so maybe you won't see that many players. But there are still some.

Hi - I'll be in Paris - by Notre Dame - for about a week.  Are the chess tables at Jardin still open for all and the best bet for a large group of chess players? Are there other locations for amateur chess games?  Thanks!

I never experienced it but I like these chess parks ambiance like you see in movies where players of all kind meets and play. But I guess you need to live in a big city to play on a regular basis. No such thing in my town!

For those of you who are wondering about the current situation, I went to the park today and the area is still surrounded by chessplayers, there were at least 30-40 players, and the level can be quite high so highly recommended to check it out if you have are nearby and have time!
