I will be in DC for a little bit over the summer. I'd love to sit down and play some games as well. Are there any strictly chess shops in the area?
Chess in Washington D.C. Area?

Look up Arlington Chess Club in nearby Arlington, VA for monthly events, mostly consisting of G30 and G45.
Also, there are a number of open tournaments with standard time controls around here every year. Some are at Rockville, held by Maryland Chess Association. You can go to their website to find dates of the Potomac Open, Washington International, Chesapeake Open, and Maryland Open. Additionally, Continental Chess Association hosts several annual tournaments in the area, such as the Continental Class (Herndon VA, it just happened a few weeks ago), Atlantic Open (in late August, downtown DC), Washington Chess Congress (last year it was near the Reagan National Airport, October).

Chess on Tap is a great social chess club that meets every Monday at Board Room, a bar north of Dupont Circle. Members range from beginner to expert, and games are played at a variety of time controls. https://www.meetup.com/Chess-on-Tap/
Hey ya'll! New to serious chess wondering if anyone knows about the chess scene in D.C. My google results have been some what fruitless. It appears the spot seems to be across the Potomac in Virginia. Let me know if anyone on here plays in my area and knows of any good spots or just wants to meet up for some games I live in Rockville area. Thank you so much for any feedback!
