I honestly don't think chess is a sport. It's one of the best games and a real good time-killer, but it isn't a sport. It could be a career path, or a hobby, but from my personal perspective, it doesn't really fit the term "sport."

Let me answer that. They are all physical. They all require some sort of physical interaction. They all require stragetic thinking. Chess doesn't need a physical board to be played. It does not require any physical interaction aside from calling out the notations "pawn to e4" "pawn to e5." They only require creating mental images and memory preservation, which are both mental skills. With that in mind, if anything that just requires 'mental strain' can be labeled a sport, why isn't school? Why aren't most memory games labeled as sport? To me, chess is a sort of "meta-sport" because it currently doesn't encapsulate the requirements that all other sports have. It's a meta, and I'm sure that in the future sport will come to encapsulate the game of chess, but right now? It doesn't, at least to me, and I'm sure other people share this perspective of mine.

Nobody thinks chess is a sport except the people that play chess.

Chess is a sport, maybe it is not crazy stunts or bungee jumping, but it is a mental sport to play and it uses more of your brain than most sports in general ,and it meets all of the requirements to be considered a sport as well

GREGORYJ62

Chess is no more than another form of a video game. > than 99 % of players just sit in front of a screen and they never leave their homes. No human interaction. Sometimes they are just playing a computer.

A sport has to involve "physical exertion" and moving your hand is physical exertion
