No one person every invented chess, if claimed, it would have been an obvious lie.  It evolved over time.

There have been books written about the Dogan people in west Africa who were in contact with space aliens. The aliens gave chess to them and they spread it throughout the world. This is my theory and I challenge anyone to disprove it!
