Chess is invented in India

My teacher say to me that you changed your flag after your previous thread got locked for racist statements against Indians and now you are trying to incite anti-indian comments here.

this is how it works. Wonder if that is piya ...

Chess was invented in India?....HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW......ah....no
'Chaturanga' is the earliest precursor to what we now know as 'Chess'. While it is referenced that they are related, they are not the same game ( by a long stretch), for a start Chaturanga uses only 10 pieces.
As for any claim to India inventing Chaturanga, the earliest documentation can date Chaturanga back to circa 640 A.D, the origin of it is said to be "uncertain"
It is interesting to note that "Fa Xian, a Chinese Buddhist who wrote extensively about his long sojourn in India at the beginning of the 5th century, does not mention the game (Chaturanga), an indication, perhaps, that it was not known then.
Chess, as we now know it , began to take shape circa 1475 where Chaturanga pieces where replaced with their modern counter parts and new laws where introduced.
All of this is gleaned from the 1996 "The Oxford Companion to Chess" so you can believe it or believe not.
FIDE's own president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov believes chess came from Outer Space (google it if you don't believe it) and the BBC's Doctor Who have referenced Chess has been invented by the Time Lords of Galifrey.
The long story short is the origins of Chess are a matter for myth and legend
Chaturanga Is the ancestor of the Persian shataranj, which eventually spread to Europe via the Arab world and became chess as we know it. The words "check" and "check mate" are from the Persian words "śāh" (king) and "śāh māt" (the king is in danger) As for Fa Xian, he probably cared more about Buddhism than chess, don't you think .

ive yet to find a hindu deity of chess though hinduism has loads of deities so still looking but not one of 25 avatars of vishnu , piya did you realise that Thrace , near greece has a deity dedicated to chess , Caissa , could that near thracian , macedonian alexander who went east even got to india , this in a bc era , have bought chess to india perhaps ? as this predates chattaranga mentions by at least 600 years

Vida's Poem ,
Tum geminae velut extremis in cornibus arces
hinc atque hinc altis stant propugnacula muris,
quae dorso immanes gestant in bella Elephanti.
"Then twin, as if at the ends, citadels in the corners,
here and here stand ramparts with high walls,
which, immense, are carried into war on the back by elephants."

The funny thing about India is that many groups of people come and go through that piece of land. You may be surprised that today's Indians may be very different than those in the past. Ask your teacher about this; it'll open up a whole can of worms !
