Translation would be something like "Sinful" or "Taboo." It is something which is prohibited.

It's not unanimous amongst Imams as to whether Chess is haram. The debate seems to centre around whether Chess is a distraction from the duties of a Muslim.

Chess was invented or born in india during Gupta Dynasty 6th CE. Today, more than 1500 years later, it is played in 172 countries.
BTW, You're telling about chess that it's haram when gambling and playing too long that you miss any prayer. But any of this wasn't told in the hadith(the hadith reference that I had send to you), It's straightly written in hadith that playing chess is prohibited in Islam and nothing about gambling or anything else. I'm still researching on this for more information. As I will know more i will share it to you too.
