Chess = LAME

Chess is nothing more than memorization. It is ignorance in its purest form. Follow the rules, stick to the principals, memorize what your supposed to do in any given situation. It used to be an amazing game before computers destroyed art. But now that we have passed that "milestone" in evolution or what not it is simply a matter of memorization. Follow the footsteps of those before you.....whoever has the most patience and ability to endure the mundane requirements to be good is the winner. It is all pre-calculated and quite boring really.....there is no room for expression anymore and it sucks. "Fischerandom" style is really the only way left to enjoy the game in my opinion, but even then it suffers the same problem that ruined the classic game. There will always be newer generations of players that have yet to discover this so the game will endure sure but anyone that explores this deep enough will come to the same understanding. It is nothing more than a scripted scene......something predictable and boring. Be a good boy and follow the "rules" to success, or attempt to break free of the mold and lose. Ultimately chess is proof that ignorance is bliss, and "expression" is doomed.

Truth. Looks like one of my posts LOL.

I don’t think you’ve learned about chess enough to really comment on it. Perhaps Fischer did, although I’d say he had a strong motivation and bias for his later life comments.

but in the mid-game and endgame you need to think and not just memorize.  You can only memorize, at max, the first 20 moves or so of an opening and this is usually at GM level when memorizing the main line or the theory is important. Average 500 Joe only memorizes the first two moves of the Scandinavian before hanging a bishop (Offense not intended) and most 1600-2400 players usually have a small collection of four or five openings that they have memorized and use pretty much always so memorize means almost nothing in chess once your out of the opening.

Capablanca said something similar a century ago--the top masters knew all there was to know about chess and soon every game would end in a draw. It seems he was mistaken. Fischer said the same thing fifty years ago and it seems that he was wrong.

Now you say that computers know it all and we need only memorize what they tell us. There is no way anybody will be able to memorize every variation of every opening their opponent might play, not to mention the many billions of middle-game possibilities. Anyone relying on this memorization will soon be out of their "book" and floundering because they don't really know anything about chess.

Ok Bobby Fischer

On top level (grandmaster) without a question memorisation is crucial. Under that level no one really memorized too much, just a few 6 move deep lines. This means games are still unknown field for such players, including yourself. grin.png

You do know there was theory before chess engines were prominent (or even functional)?

At some point in your chess career, you will see it the way I am seeing it lately and you will agree with me. I guarantee it......you will then wish you could break out of the mold but there simply is no way to do it. Then you will most likely move on to a new hobby.....I guess it depends on wether or not you are making money playing! haha

That’s what makes it fun though! Of course I have been playing for an extremely short period of time in comparison to most of the individuals on this forum but that’s been my take so far

this guy is literally the reincarnation of bobby fischer.

but that's why it's fun, because humans aren't computers, and we can't memorize everything we should do in a given position.

As strong as computers are, even they aren't perfect at chess.

Memorization is an important part of a game for super GMs. Sub 2000 players, not so much.

For sub 1200 rated players the only important thing is to follow principles and try not to blunder a piece.

This comes from an under 1000 player... Nice trolling

Imagine wasting time, posting about how lame chess is.

Projection is a real thing.

Wow, thanks for saying how much you hate chess. While you go on your rants, we'll enjoy one of our favorite activities. No one is forcing you to play, so close your account if you want to.

Another "engines have ruined chess" post.  The only impact on the game as far as engines goes is at  the elite level.  It has done nothing to change chess for the rest of us.

You will find no sympathy with me

Time is valuable and limited; love what you do, do what you love.  If you are unhappy, just leave.  Fade away gracefully.   Bashing Chess in this forum is not smart and serves only to diminish your stature, which is disappointing.   Sadly, you have learned very little from years of study.

BTW---forget "expression "; "Just win, Baby!" (Al Davis)

If there is so little to it, I am a bit surprised that your rating is so low.
