I don't have any, but I do have an internet connection and a membership here at Chess.com....Oh and I also stayed at a Holiday Inn last night, which should account for something...Innocent  Seriously, I have access to the public library which I can do inter-library loans from almost 40 libraries.

jonnyjupiter

I have 22 books, most of which cover my favourite openings along with a few excellent middlegame/endgame books. I hope to read some of them sometime.

If you only have all the informants you would have over 100 books.

I have most Chess Informants--the games at least--in electronic format, but also have more than a half dozen individual printed volumes, one printed monograph, and all five volumes of ECO, though not the latest edition. I didn't count in my totals any of the electronic editions, nor any of the more than two dozen books and magazines in PDF format. Google Books has available for free download many classic texts, such as The Art of Chess (1905) by James Mason.

Got some 180+ more at the attic(unless the mites got them) and some i already traded and sold.:)

Wow! Guess some one had plenty of time to write that!  Ummm.......get a life!

Well brother...I do have a life.... I'm a Prof. Broadcast Video/Sound EditorWink and chess is my way of relaxing and spending valuable time. This was my list in text form which i have typed a few months ago when i was trading my books for other titles. I felt it very useful to write it down so that the person to whom i could sell/trade my books with will find it easy to choose. So in short, the list has been done a long time ago for trading/selling purposes. So it's not because i had nothing to do (it's business). It's not just all chess books that i spend time reading bro, I also have books that i read that are related to my job (Lightwave,Avid,Protools, Maya, Flash, After effects, Edius,Studio Max,Photoshop, illustrator,Sound forge and Dreamweaver) in case you've not seen my profile Wink. Most of my chess books are old about 3 to 4 decades old passed on to me by my grandpa to my uncle then to me.I wrote it down not to brag about them, but to share them in case somebody needs to trade for them or buy them.Merry christmas bro!Wink

lkjqwerrrreeedd

I have around 25 quite a few of them are for the chess club and 32 if you include the ones that I'm donating to the Library.

Alot of mine are for endgame reference like secrets of rook endings by Nunn. Also I have a plan to build up my opening book collection but I'll need to get some more money before I even think about that.

You see, listing all these books once is hard enough on the thread, but quoting it repeatedly is worse, and wholly unnecessary.

Ganine

Over 600. I certainly wouldn't ever try to list them all though!  The secret is to try to read (and understand) them! :)

Liquidator_Brunt

I only have a handful.

But I figure all important chess knowledge is encoded into The Mammoth Book of The World's Greatest Chess Games so it is my favorite to study.

P.S., I think I could study it for the rest of my life and still be learning from it.

I thought I had a lot, but in comparison I am a like a puny pawn.

But you know as well a puny pawn can win a battle of chess and get promoted, but never become a KING.

I have about 100 chess books. Probably about 200 books in my library with other subjects.

Of the 100 chess books I have never PLAYED out all the games on a chess board, some only in my head, and many I just skipped over.

So If I pick up one of the books I always find something different to learn. Many of the book are beginners books that I planned to give away, but since they change the way the books are written I don't give them to new students. Those books just sit there waiting.

They wait for the end of their life as a book.

I forgot I have access to a collection of chess books at a middle school in my town. They were purchased on Craig's list. There are about 400 books there and about 40 of them are in Russian.
I am the only one that ever goes and looks at
them so they just sit on the shelves waiting.
RichColorado

The best book in my library I alway enjoy, played out and read accasionally is:

"The Adventures of a Chess Master"

                                 by

                      George Koltanowski

It was written in 1955 and it has blindfold chess information and many short stories of the countries that he toured playing chess. The are very funny, tense and informative. They are written in the old informative method. Book is out of print but sold in Amazon, e-bay as a used book.

Geo was a friend of my and has pass away.

I have more books than I have time to read.

I wish I had time for some of the books on my shelf such as Kasparov's "Great Predecessor" books and Zurich 1953. Who has time to read when it takes hours to play one game!

Fischer said he had read 1000 chess books and had digested the core of each and every one. I dont think I've digested the core of any chess book. How long does it take to digest the core of a chess book.

I'm going a little off topic I know but how influential are the titles of chess books.  Would a book entitled "Draw" be a big seller ?  Thats kind of like kissing your sister isnt it ?  What about "Chess for Tigers"? There is a picture of a ferocious looking tiger playing a nerdy looking guy on the cover. An interesting book which sold very well which reminds me of "Chess for Zebras".

A book which a few years ago caught my eye was  "Chess: The Search for Mona Lisa".  Isn't that what we all looking for---the mona lisa of chess books! If you ever find that Queen of chess books and read it (whatever the title) then  SHAZAM---CAPTAIN MARVEL!

Isnt that why we buy chess books---we're constantly looking for that silver bullet that will release our potential.
