Chess Life and Review - any good?

There are two volumes called the Best of Chess Life and Review edited by Pandolfini. The first volume goes back to the 1930's I think. Not sure.

What kind of things, articles, game helps, chess happenings (dated) would be in them? Have you read them?

I think I could get them for a reasonable price but I need to know more about them. Is the print microscopic?  Are there good reviews of chess books?

Let me know if you have seen or read about them.

Thanks for replying. Even though the 2nd volume of Best of Chess Life and Review in Pandolfini's collection ends in the 1980's, I think both volumes might be really interesting. (The first starts in the 1930's.)
