Try the Chess.com Downloads page

If I understand correctly, you're looking for a free chess program to play against or do analysis with? The downloads section here has some free stuff:

I haven't downloaded any of these things yet myself, but Rybka 1.0 beta looks interesting. Also, they have Fritz 5.32 here, you might want to take a look at that. As for myself, I bought Fritz 8 a couple years ago. About a month ago I picked up a copy of Chessmaster 10 for $9.99 at Future Shop - not expensive at all, well worth it and I'd highly recommend it.

Hope that helps.

Edit: Crosspost with kohai.

I don't get it then. What exactly are you looking for? There are tons of free chess engines on the downloads page here. Perhaps I misunderstood your original question?

AquaMan

I downloaded the rybka beta a couple months ago.  In Fritz shootout at 9 ply, rybka will often choose different moves than the fritz 9 engine.  So Rybka gives some additional ideas.

Stockfish is available for free. Even its source code is in public domain.
