It sounds a lot like Silman's Imbalances, which dictate that the board determines the right ''plan''.

Well, imagine, your opponent moves his queen. #1 is what the queen move was made. Like, opening file for other piece/threaten your knight etc. #6. The queen was preventing you to play a move. It no longer doing the same job maybe.

It may look better to be placed #6 as #2. But, as soltis told, "the more you study the position, the more you will miss the tactic"

#12 we often play h6 to get ride of a pin

@boogalicious, the quote is true. But, he suggest a very different thinking method. Example? You have a bishop against knight, so you must open the position. I like the soltis's method more.
