think most would say Searching for Bobby Fisher. It got me started playing beyond just for fun back in the early 90s. Wish i would have kept up with the game tho. Just starting over agian after a 15 year layoff

There is one good episode of "Columbo" (Peter Falk) which is about the murder of a chess player. He is murdered by his opponent after beating the opp. in a casual game at the restaurant where they had dinner together on the eve of the tournament. They ended up shoving the salt, pepper and all sorts of items instead of proper pieces on the chequered table cloth.
